Consumer Concern - Is Gov Cost Effective?
For the tanker loads of cash that government burns, there is amazingly little work done on the effectiveness of government spending. What bang are taxpayers getting for their bucks? It's harder to answer than one might surmise. Program goals are often not defined or quantified. Even if definable, progress toward goals generally are not measured, nor are alternative means of achieving those goals examined regularly, if at all.
In the following pages, let's look at government's biggest three programs in order of the dollars they consume: Senior Subsidies, Education, and Defense.
